“Robert of Sicily” Read by Carole Joy Seid | Episode 118
Carole recently rediscovered an old favorite, Robert of Sicily, a classic narrative poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Though written more than a century ago, its message remains just as relevant today.
The story follows Robert, a proud king who is troubled by the biblical words, “He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and exalted them of low degree.” Convinced that someone of his status could never be brought low, Robert soon finds himself humbled in a dramatic and unexpected way. Through a series of events, he learns that earthly power and position are temporary, while humility before God is of eternal value.
This memorable tale beautifully illustrates a truth found throughout Scripture: God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
